Last night Chippewa was alerted for a motor vehicle accident on 37th street extension near Clearview St.

First arriving units found a single SUV on its passenger side with heavy damage sustained to the drivers door area and one male patient still inside the vehicle.

Being on its side, stabilization of the vehicle was immediate to prevent any further injury to the victim and ensure a safe working environment for the rescuers.

Extrication consisted of dual operations with personnel creating access with hydraulic cutters and sawzalls outside of the vehicle while a rescuer used the Jaws of Life inside the vehicle to free the entrapped victim.

The patient was under the care of Medic Rescue personnel throughout the operations and was flown to a Pittsburgh area hospital for evaluation and treatment of his injuries.

Rescue Companies from Chippewa, Beaver Falls and Patterson Twp. conducted operations at the scene.

Engine companies from Chippewa, Beaver Falls and Patterson Heights provide safety and traffic control as well as Landing Zone operations.

All units were on scene for a little over an hour.

A special thanks to the Chippewa Township Police Department and Sullis Towing for their quick response and assistance.
