Fuel spill causes traffic mess

June 20, 2020

Late Friday morning, Station 22 was alerted for a fuel spill on Rt. 51.
Rescue and Squad 22 responded to the area of Rt. 51 and Interstate 376 where they found a moderate amount of diesel fuel spilled in the far right, northbound lane.
An auxiliary fuel tank came loose from a flat bed truck as it made the turn from I-376 onto Route 51 .
Units blocked the contaminated lane and applied absorbent material to keep the spill from migrating. Due to the size of the spill, Penn DOT was notified and responded for clean up.
A minor accident was reported in the backlog of traffic that developed from the lane closure. Crew members with Rescue 22 responded and performed medical evaluations on two patients who refused further assistance and medical transport.
All units were back in service in about two and a half hours.
