Landing Zone Training

April 21, 2021

Last night members of Chippewa and South Beaver fire departments received thorough and proper training on all aspects of setting up remote landing zones for air medical helicopters.

Representatives from StatMedivac came to Chippewa’s station and gave a very informative PowerPoint presentation on techniques, hazards and other facts needed to safely help a medical helicopter land at a remote location.

Afterwards, all attendees traveled to Blackhawk High School. There, they set up a proper landing site on one of the ball fields, and practiced proper radio communication while “Stat” landed one of there helicopters.

Once on the ground, flight crews instructed the students on how to approach the helicopter, how to help load patients, as well as safety and special rescue techniques that would be required in the event of a crash landing.
