December 5, 2022

It was a busy stretch for the Chippewa Township Fire Department. Shortly after 10 pm Sunday evening we were dispatched for a possible structure fire in the Township.

First arriving units found that the fire had already burned itself out due to lack of oxygen, however, the entire first floor was destroyed. Sadly, one of our residents perished in the fire.

The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal’s office was called and are conducting an investigation to help determine a possible cause.

Crews from Beaver Falls, Big Beaver and Patterson assisted at the scene, as well as, the Chippewa Police and Medic Rescue Ambulance, however, some units were reassigned to assist in coverage due to New Brighton having a structure fire at the same time.

Units remained on scene for almost 3 hours.

The Chippewa Fire Department is truly saddened by the tragic loss of one of our residents and we send our sympathy and condolences to the victims family.

Just before 5 am, Chippewa was once again alerted for a working residential structure fire, this time in in Big Beaver. Arriving crews found a well involved attached garage fire extending through the attic.

The home owner was awakened by the fire and was able to escape without injury.

Companies from Big Beaver, Chippewa, Darlington, Beaver Falls, Enon Valley, New Brighton, North Sewickley and West Mayfield responded.

The home suffered devastating damage in the hours long firefight.

A Go Fund Me account has been set up by a family member to help defer costs. (Link can be found in comments)

At 9:20 am, Chippewa was once again alerted. This time for a motor vehicle accident on I -376 east heading towards Brighton Township.

The vehicle suffered moderate front end damage when the driver lost control and swerved off the road into a ditch and returned to the pavement coming to rest in the left lane.

The single occupant was transported by Northwestern Ambulance with unspecified injuries.

Chippewa was assisted by Patterson Township and Patterson Heights fire departments.

Shortly before 12:30pm, our tones once again were activated for Ladder 22 to respond to a structure fire in a commercial establishment in the city of Beaver Falls.

Upon our arrival, the fire had been contained. The crew on Ladder 22 assisted in some light overhaul operations and scene cleanup.

Hopefully a safe and quiet night lays ahead!
